Berkeley Used Furniture (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates a community marketplace that helps neighbors in Berkeley buy and sell pre-owned furniture. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

When you create an account or make a purchase, we collect the following information:

  • Name — so buyers and sellers can identify each other.
  • Email address— for account access, order confirmations, and messages about items you've listed or purchased.
  • Phone number — to coordinate pickup or delivery directly with the other party in a transaction.
  • Address — to arrange furniture pickup or delivery.
  • Payment method — securely stored and processed by Stripe, our payment partner. We never see or store your full card number on our servers.

How we use your information

We use the information above strictly to operate the marketplace. Specifically, to:

  • Create and maintain your account.
  • Connect buyers and sellers so they can complete a transaction.
  • Enable furniture pickup and delivery between users.
  • Send you transactional messages about items you've listed, saved, or purchased.
  • Process payments through Stripe.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as necessary to complete a transaction — for example, sharing a buyer's name and address with the seller for pickup coordination, or sending payment details to Stripe for processing. We may also disclose information when required by law.

Data security

Account data is stored with Supabase using industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. Payment information is handled exclusively by Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processor.

Data retention

We retain account information for as long as your account is active. Transaction records (including order history and payment records held by Stripe) are kept for at least seven years to comply with tax and accounting obligations. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize personal information that is not required for legal, accounting, or fraud-prevention purposes.

Your privacy rights

You can update or delete your account information at any time from your profile settings. To request a full export or deletion of your data, contact us at the email below.

Your California privacy rights

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have additional rights regarding their personal information.

Categories of personal information we collect

  • Identifiers — name, email address, phone number, postal address, account ID.
  • Customer records (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.80) — name, address, phone number, payment information.
  • Commercial information — items listed, saved, or purchased on the marketplace.
  • Financial information — payment method details (collected and stored by Stripe; we receive only a token and the last four digits).
  • Internet or other electronic activity — basic device, log, and usage data needed to operate the site securely.

Sources

Directly from you when you create an account, list an item, or make a purchase, and from our payment processor (Stripe) for transaction confirmations.

Purposes

See “How we use your information” above. We do not use personal information for purposes materially different from those disclosed at collection without first notifying you.

Sale or sharing of personal information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We have not done so in the preceding 12 months.

Sensitive personal information

We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that would require offering you a right to limit such use under the CPRA.

Your California rights

  • Right to know— request the categories and specific pieces of personal information we've collected about you, the sources, the purposes, and the third parties we've shared it with.
  • Right to delete— request deletion of personal information we've collected from you, subject to legal exceptions.
  • Right to correct — request correction of inaccurate personal information.

  • Right to non-discrimination — we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your privacy rights.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at anna.elizglass@gmail.com. We will verify your request using the email and account information on file. You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf; we may require written authorization and may verify the agent's identity.
